Chester County is a short 40-minute drive from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT), which has daily direct flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL). Canada is a great target for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Chester County. We had great success with Toronto-based IKO Industries earlier this year with two projects. Project 1 is restarting a former fiberglass plant. This will be feedstock for Project 2 that will be the most technological fiberglass mat plant when it opens it's doors next year. This is the largest announcement in IKO's history. We are looking for companies interested in expanding in the the Southeast U.S. We are also the only Tier 4 county along the I-77 corridor, meaning Canadian companies will maximize the value of the incentives that South Carolina can offer. We have a 20-mile long (32.19 km) divided four-lane industrial corridor where we couple of unique attribute. First, the L&C Railroad is a short line that connects to both CSX and Norfolk Southern with in Chester County. Second, we have one of only five natural gas authorities in South Carolina with an 8-inch high-pressure steel line that can provide redundant gas from two different directions. This allows the L&C Railroad and Chester County Natural Gas Authority to offer rates 20-30 percent lower for heavy rail and gas users. Chester County also has more than a dozen certified sites (including numerous large 300+ acre (121+ hectare) sites).
Chester County, South Carolina is located along Interstate 77 between two metros. We are 40-minutes from uptown Charlotte and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) and 50-minutes from downtown Columbia. We are a former textile community. While the textiles are gone, we remain the top manufacturing county in metro Charlotte. We are #1 with the highest percentage of our private-sector workforce in manufacturing at 46%, and we a #1 in manufacturing job growth. Since 2021 we have announced $2.5+ billion in capital investment and 1,440+ jobs. Highlights include E. & J. Gallo Winery ($423 million & 496 jobs), IKO Industries ($363 million & 180 jobs), and Albemarle Corporation ($1.3 billion & 307 jobs). We have mature sectors in Metals & Metal Products; Wood & Wood Products; and Rubbers, Plastics & Chemicals. We have two emerging sectors with Food & Beverage and EV-related. In addition to the Albemarle’s lithium hydroxide processing plant, Chester County is only a short 40-minute drive from Scout Motor’s $2 billion EV assembly plant that will create 4,000 jobs. Chester County is in a great location for Scout’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers.
